Director's Statement
"Forgetting Regret came about when I decided to make a calling card film that emphasized my talents as an actor, writer, and director (in that order). My last two short films I had directed had both been comedies and both been films in which I had not appeared in. Those movies were made with the full intention of helping my fellow actor/filmmaker friends get some tape-worthy footage for their resumés and demo reels. I like directing and really enjoy writing, but my main pursuit in this business is and always has been acting. So with this project, I wanted to go back to my performing roots and make a film that would help me further my own career in the emphasis I wanted to establish. But also being a writer and director, I decided to take on all three hats to see if I was up to the challenge. It didn't take me long to realize that producing (which I loathe) also came with the territory. It's hard finding a producer at this level that knows what he or she's doing and can be trusted. I know a few who are one or the other. The story was something I'd been stewing in for a while now and I figured this would be the perfect opportunity to get this film made. It was partially (and unsuccessfully) funded using IndieGoGo, my first foray into crowd-funding. The reason I chose IndieGoGo over Kickstarter (which is all or nothing) was because I knew I could make the movie with whatever money I received, even if my target goal wasn't realized. I've become particularly adept at stretching the dollar and both my films that have been financed both came in on schedule and under budget. My specialty being casting, I had actors in mind for each of the main parts and through good luck and support, they all agreed to come on board. Just by completing this film, I've accomplished two things: a dramatic piece that contrasts from my previous comedic films, and created a film that rests solely on my shoulders. As an actor/writer/director, there's no one else to blame or commend. This makes it the ideal calling card to showcase my talents in three separate areas at once. I hope Forgetting Regret achieves some sort of success in the festival circuit and I genuinely hope people enjoy the film, but beyond that, I hope it aids the careers of all who gave their time to the cause. I am truly appreciative of everybody who donated their time and/or money into this project. Their talents deserve to be acknowledged as everybody on this film has a bright future in front of them."
